Hatters Outlasted by Bisons

Stetson women's tennis saw its three-match winning streak come to an end as Lipscomb outlasted the Hatters, 4-3, in ASUN Conference play, Saturday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
In the final home match of the year, Stetson (11-7 overall, 3-2 ASUN) battled the Bisons (8-7, 2-2) down to the final point before succumbing.
 
"It was a tough loss today on senior day," Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant said. "We had a huge opportunity to close it out early but to the credit of Lipscomb they fought back and pulled it off. We appreciate the support of the fans and student athletes today coming out on the last home match."
 
Lipscomb won the doubles point but Stetson evened the match when Brooke Milner pulled out a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
 
After Lipscomb earned a win at No. 1, Stetson's Maxine Bateman tied it up with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6.
 
The Bisons took a 3-2 lead with a win at No. 4, but Lucie Renault rallied for a 7-5, 0-6, 7-5 win at No. 3 to knot the match at 3-3.
 
Stetson's Danel Ashirova pushed her opponent to the limit at No. 2 before falling 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) to give the Bisons the win.
 
Stetson closes out the regular season when they visit FGCU on Saturday, April 14.
