Hatters Settle for Draw With Ospreys

Stetson and North Florida battled to a 1-1 draw in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams, Friday in Jacksonville.

UNF (5-3-1, 0-0-1) out-shot Stetson (3-4-3, 0-0-1) by a 21-11 margin, but the Hatters managed to force overtime with a late goal and a bend, don't break defensive effort.

"I'm really proud of our effort to get a tie on the road," Stetson head coach Manoj Khettry. "North Florida is a much-improved team over last year. We had a lot of people give us some quality minutes tonight. I think the key for us moving forward is generating more meaningful chances on offense. That's our biggest challenge."

UNF started the scoring when Andrea Sanchez scored her first goal of the season in the 37th minute. Lorena Cedeno slipped a pass to Sanchez, who fired a shot just under the crossbar from 25 yards away.

It stayed a 1-0 game until Lindsey Parent broke through for the Hatters in the 79th minute. Hailey Williams slipped a thru-ball to parent, who beat the keeper one-on-one from 10 yards out.

Freshman Maggie Beatty was strong in her first career start in goal, making nine saves. UNF's Rhiannon Conelly made four saves.

The Hatters continue ASUN play when they visit Jacksonville, 1 p.m., Sunday.
