Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Athletic Communications

Hatters Edged by UNA, 1-0

North Alabama's Shelby Wall scored the game's only goal as the Lions edged Stetson in ASUN Conference women's soccer, Sunday at the Athletic Training Center.

It's the third straight loss for the Hatters (3-7-3, 0-3-1), while the Lions improved to 8-5-0 overall and 2-1-0 in their first season in the ASUN.

Wall and the Lions took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Hatters early in the first half to get their goal. Margarida Sousa intercepted a pass at 30 yards and fed a streaking Wall, who then beat Stetson goalkeeper Maggie Beatty in a one-on-one situation in the 10th minute.

It was the only blemish for Beatty, who turned in an otherwise outstanding effort in her first home start. The freshman stopped four shots, including one in each half, thwarting significant challenges by the Lions.

The Hatters had some good opportunities to score, but strong plays were made by North Alabama keeper Shelby Thornton each time. Hailey Williams ripped a shot from about 25 yards midway through the first half that Thornton corralled to keep it 1-0. Lindsey parent had a great opportunity in front of the goal late in the second half, flicking a cross off her right foot but Thornton made that save as well.

Stetson returns to action on Thursday when the Hatters host ASUN foe Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN3.
