Hatters Drop ASUN Affair at Lipscomb

Four Hatters scored in double figures but it wasn't enough as the Stetson suffered a 95-71 loss to Lipscomb in ASUN Conference play, Saturday at Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
 
Kenny Aninye led Stetson with 13 points, while Christiaan Jones scored 12, Raine McKeython had 11 and Abayomi Iyiola chipped in with 10. Rob Marberry led the Bisons with 23 points. Garrison Matthews had 20 and Jake Wolfe added 16 off the bench.
 
Stetson (4-13 overall, 0-2 ASUN) controlled the game early on and led 17-16 on a layup by Jones with 12:07 to go in the first half. Lipscomb (12-4, 3-0) responded with a 17-2 over the next four minutes and led 33-19 on a Marberry jumper with 12:07 left in the half.
 
Lipscomb finished the half shooting 59 percent from the field and led, 56-30, at halftime.
 
Down by 26, the Hatters briefly got back into the game early in the second half. Stetson out-scored Lipscomb, 14-5, over the first 3:56 of the half and cut the deficit to 61-47 with 15:04 to go. But again the Bisons responded, scoring 18 of the next 24 points and grabbing 79-54 lead on a Michael Buckland free throw with 9:43 left.
 
Lipscomb shot 47 percent for the game and was 25 of 30 from the free throw line. Stetson finished the game at a 39-percent clip and 15 of 24 from the stripe.

  • The Hatters shot 46.7 percent in the second half
  • Sophomore Clay Verk grabbed a career-high 6 rebounds
  • Junior Jahlil Rawley's 7 rebounds are also a career-high
  • Stetson forced 14 turnovers and held an 18-8 advantage on points-off-turnovers
  • The Hatters made just 6 3-point field goals, snapping a streak of three games with at least 10
