Hatters Can't Overcome Slow Second Half Start

Leo Goodman tied a career-high with 17 points but Stetson couldn't overcome North Florida's hot start to the second half as the Hatters fell to the Ospreys, 87-77, in ASUN Conference action on Wednesday at Edmunds Center.

After a first half in which the teams exchanged leads nine times, the Ospreys (9-10 overall, 3-1 ASUN) took control of the contest in the first six minutes of the second half. Leading 42-41 when the half began, UNF scored 16 of the first 23 points out of halftime and led 58-48 on a 3-pointer by J.T. Escobar with 14:00 to play.

UNF eventually pushed its lead to 12 points (62-50) before the Hatters (4-14, 0-3) fought back. A 6-0 run by Stetson cut the deficit to 62-56 with 9:23 to go.

Stetson got as close as five points when a dunk by Christiaan Jones made it a 67-62 game with 7:45 to play but the Hatters couldn't get any closer.

Goodman, a senior, finished his night 7 of 12 from the field with one 3-pointer. He also added 6 rebounds, and 3 assists to round out an excellent effort.

Jones came off the bench with 14 points, while Marques Sumner and Abayomi Iyiola each had 12.

Five players reached double-digits for UNF, led by Garrett Sams with 18 points.
