Half-Court Shot Sinks Hatters

Christian Agnew's half-court heave just beat the buzzer and lifted North Alabama to a stunning 63-62 win over Stetson in ASUN Conference play, Saturday at Flowers Hall in Florence, Ala.

With 5.7 seconds to play and Stetson leading, 62-60, Kenny Aninye missed the second to two free throws. Agnew tracked down the rebound deep in the corner, took off at full speed and let a shot fly from a step behind half-court. The ball banked into the basket as the horn expired, sending the Lions (7-13, 4-1 ASUN) to their fourth straight win.

Agnew's heroics for UNA came after Stetson stormed out of the locker room to start the second half.

Down 32-27 at halftime, Stetson (4-15, 0-4) opened the second half with a 14-0 run and led 41-32 after a Keith Matthews layup with 15:06 to play.

North Alabama eventually regained the lead but only for a moment. Tied at 49 with 7:09 to go, Stetson went on an 8-0 run and led 57-49 after a Matthews jumper with 5:35 left.

The Hatters maintained that lead until the game's final play. Stetson had several opportunities to ice the game at the free throw line but missed four of five from the line in the game's final 41 seconds.

Marques Sumner led the Hatters with 14 points while Aninye added 10.

Kendarius Smith led North Alabama with 15. Emmanuel Littles had 11 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.
