Beach's Triple-Double Lifts Stetson Past Lipscomb

Hatter Senior Goes For 20 Pts, 10 Reb and 11 Ast

Nashville, Tenn. -- Senior McKenna Beach recorded her first career triple-double and the ninth triple-double in school history to lift Stetson to a 80-65 victory over
conference foe Lipscomb Saturday afternoon at Allen Arena.

Beach, a 5-6 guard, registered 20 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists as the Hatters (7-9) improved to 2-0 in ASUN play.

"I thought McKenna Beach played the probably the best game I have ever seen her play in the four years I've coached her," head coach Lynn Bria said.  "For someone of her stature to get a triple-double, that (shows) it's not how big you are, it's how you big you play.  I am really proud of her."

Beach scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half, including 12 in the fourth quarter.  It was Stetson's first triple-double since Victoria McGowan accomplished the feat - also at Allen Arena - in 2013.

"It felt great," Beach said. "I moved to the high-post spot this game, and my teammates got open and made some big shots.  I was able to spread the zone out.  Everyone was aggressive and that's what helped us win."

Junior Addi Walters led the offense with seven 3-pointers and a season-high 25 points.  She was 7-for-12 from behind the arc and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.  Her seven 3s were one off the school record and the most by a Hatter since Jama Sharp hit seven against Jacksonville in 2014.

"If Addi gets going, it's a long night for the other team, because she can really shoot it," Bria said.  "She is one of the best shooters I have ever seen.  She is getting better overall, she is more comfortable, and she really adds a lot.  She commands so much attention, and that really helps the other players."

Dressing just eight players for the game, the Hatters got contributions throughout the lineup.  Sophomore Megan Vincent scored a career-high 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting, and Kendall Lentz added eight points and eight rebounds in 37 minutes.

"I thought Kendall and Megan did an outstanding job, especially on the boards," Bria said. "I was proud of our kids.  I thought they did a great job considering we had a couple of them out.  I thought the response was huge."

Jane Deason led Lipscomb (2-14, 0-3) with 20 points.

Winners of three in a row and six out of seven, the Hatters will visit UNF at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
