Sluggish Start Costs Hatters

McKenna Beach led Stetson with 18 points

Jacksonville, Fla. -- Bolstered by an 11-0 run to open the game, UNF defeated visiting Stetson 71-57 Tuesday night at the UNF Arena.

The Hatters (7-10, 2-1 ASUN) shot 27 percent in the first half in dropping their first conference contest of the year.

"It's disappointing, especially coming off the game we had at Lipscomb," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We just didn't do anything we were supposed to do.  Our mental effort was very poor.  I don't think we ever recovered from the first quarter."

The Ospreys (7-8, 2-2) were hot right from the opening tip, draining their first three attempts from behind the arc.  UNF hit seven 3-pointers in the first quarter alone and led 27-10 after 1.

Stetson cut the deficit to 12 midway through the second quarter but still trailed 38-22 at the break.  The Ospreys led by as many as 24 in the second half before Stetson cut the final margin to 14.

McKenna Beach led Stetson with 18 points.  Day'Neshia Banks returned to the lineup to collect 13 points and eight rebounds.  Mackenzie Davis scored eight points off the bench.

Jazz Bond led UNF with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  The Ospreys held a 43-32 edge on the glass.

The Hatters will look to bounce back Saturday afternoon at North Alabama.
