Hatters Open Season With Dominating Win

Stetson women's tennis started the new season off on the right foot with a 6-1 win over Morgan State, Wednesday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
The Hatters (1-0) won the doubles point and took five of six singles matches against the Bears (0-2).
 
Stetson won two of three doubles to open the match with a 1-0 lead. The No. 2 tandem of Lucie Renault & Danel Ashirova were 6-0 winners, and the No. 3 duo of Alexe Viaud & Danielle Peele clinched the point with a 6-4 victory.
 
In singles, the Hatters wasted little time in making quick work of the Bears. Vicky Geurinckx was the first in the win column, with a 6-0, 6-1 win on Court 5. Viaud gave the Hatters a 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win on Court 6, and Renault clinched the victory by virtue of a 6-2, 6-0 win on Court 3.
 
Peele gave the Hatters a 5-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win on Court 4, and Ashirova capped Stetson's strong effort by winning 7-5, 6-2, and Court 1.
 
The Hatters return to the court, 5 p.m., Friday at UCF.
