Hatters Fall to NJIT

NJIT opened the second half with a 13-1 run and the Highlanders cruised from there en route to an 82-59 ASUN Conference win over Stetson, Thursday at Edmunds Center.
 
Leading 38-32 at halftime, NJIT (16-5 overall, 4-2 ASUN) made six of its first eight shots out of the intermission, forging a 51-33 lead on a 3-pointer by Zach Cooks with 13:58 left in the game. The Hatters never got any closer the rest of the way.
 
Stetson (4-17, 0-6) was led in scoring by sophomore Christiaan Jones who finished 10 points. Fellow sophomore Keith Matthews came off the bench to score 9 points and grab a team-high 7 rebounds.
 
The Hatters, who came in averaging nearly eight 3-pointers per game, were just 2of 17 from beyond the arc.
 
NJIT shot 60 percent for the game, including 72 percent (18-25) in the second half. Cooks, the ASUN's leading scorer, finished with a game-high 16 points for the Highlanders.

  • Stetson entered the game ranked first in the ASUN in offensive rebounds per game with 12.5. With 9 offensive rebounds on the day, Stetson remained comfortably above UNF (11.6 per game). Stetson outrebounded NJIT, 9-4, on the offensive glass.
  • Jahlil Rawley tied his previous high of 6 points on Thursday. His previous high came against UNC Asheville on 12/18/18.
  • Rawley also had 3 steals and now has 11 total in his last 6 games
  • Stetson beat NJIT in 7-4 in second chance points.
