Hot-Shooting Lipscomb Downs Stetson

Garrison Matthews scored a game-high 31 points to lead ASUN Conference co-leader Lipscomb to an 88-65 over home standing Stetson, Sunday at Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla.
 
Matthews was 10 of 17 from the field, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range. He made 6 of his 7 free throws and added 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 25 minutes. Lipscomb (16-4 overall, 7-0 ASUN) led wire-to-wire as they remained locked in a tie with Liberty atop the conference standings.
 
Stetson (4-17, 0-7) was led by Abayomi Iyiola, who recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Christiaan Jones added 10 points as the only other Hatter to score in double figures.
 
Lipscomb started the game hot, making 5 of their first 6 shots as they opened a 16-5 lead with 15:53 to go. The Bisons never cooled off, leading 47-24 at halftime. The lead swelled to as many as 31 points in the second half when a layup by Alex Jones made it 74-43 with 8:33 to go.
 
The Bisons shot 47 percent for the game and connected on 12 of their 27 three-point attempts. Matt Rose and Eli Pepper supported Matthews' scoring effort with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
 
Stetson shot 34 percent for the game, including 6 of 25 from beyond the arc.
 
Game Notes
  • Stetson remains first in the ASUN in offensive rebounds per game with 12.5 a contest. Tonight the Hatters grabbed 11 offensive boards.
  • The Hatters shot a stellar 11-12 (.916) from the free throw line in the first half. They finished 13 of 17 from the line (.765).
  • Balanced Scoring: 13 different Hatters scored during the contest
  • Abayomi Iyiola reached double figures for the 10th time of the season and 18th game of his career
  • Jones reached double digits for the 14th time this season, and 20th of his career.
