Hatters Edged by Georgia State

Stetson's furious second half rally wasn't quite enough as the Hatters dropped a 1-0 decision to Georgia State, Tuesday at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand.

Facing their 11th game in just over a month and with a crucial ASUN Conference game at Liberty waiting on Saturday, many Stetson regulars didn't see action on Tuesday. Not surprisingly Stetson started slow, but the Hatters came on strong after halftime.

Trailing 1-0 as the second half began, Stetson (5-5-1) completely dominated play for the first 30 minutes of the second half but couldn't find the net. The Hatters launched 10 shots in the second half, including seven in the first 20 minutes after the break.

Like Stetson in the second half, Georgia State controlled play for much of the first half. The Panthers took advantage of Stetson's only real scoring opportunity on the first 45 minutes and turned it into the game's only goal.

Georgia State blocked a Stetson shot attempt off a corner kick, and Frank Rosenwald gave the Panthers (5-0-3) a 1-0 lead when he dribbled straight toward the goal from midfield and put a shot past Stetson keeper Lute Lillo-Portero.

Georgia State keeper Paul Tyson was the difference, making six saves in the second half and keeping the Panthers on top. Portero made three saves for the Hatters.

The conference-leading Hatters next visit Liberty, 1 p.m., Saturday.
