Hatters Stay Unbeaten in ASUN Play

Stetson men's soccer remained undefeated and on top of the ASUN standings with a 1-0 win over Liberty, Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.

Stetson entered the weekend tied at the top of the conference standings with North Florida. With the win the Hatters improved to 6-5-1 overall and 2-0-1 in ASUN play. UNF faces Jacksonville later tonight.

After a scoreless first half, the Hatters got on the board thanks to one of several freshmen having an impact this season.

Gio Rodriguez gave the Hatters a 1-0 lead when he scored his first collegiate goal in the 58th minute, as he was in the right place at the right time. William Suaut's shot from in close was saved by the keeper, but Rodriguez swooped in to hammer home the rebound for the game's only goal.

Stetson's defense made the goal stand up. Another freshman, Lute Lillo-Portero, earned his fourth shutout of the season in goal, facing 10 shots and making three saves.

The Hatters next host Lipscomb, 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12 in DeLand.
