Women’s Golf Tied for Second at FIU Event

Lakewood Ranch, Fla. – The Stetson women's golf team faded a little late in the second round of the 42nd Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, but the Hatters will still enter play on Tuesday in the final round of the event just one shot off the tournament lead.

The Hatters had sole possession of the tournament lead until the final four holes on Monday at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. Over those last four holes the team gave up six shots to the field thanks to a trio of double bogeys.

Florida Atlantic, which played those four holes at one-under par, took advantage to edge past the Hatters into the tournament lead. Both the Hatters and Owls posted rounds of 290 on Monday. ASUN foe FGCU is also in the mix at the top of the field after a second round 289. The Eagles and Hatters are tied for second, one shot behind FAU.

Host FIU is fourth after a second round 292. The Panthers are three shots behind Stetson and four off the lead.

After a three-under par first nine holes on Monday, Stetson senior Justine Lauer was alone atop the individual leaderboard. She was still three under for the day going into the final two holes of the round, but a double bogey on the par four 17th and a bogey on the par five 18th left her at even par for the day and dropped her to fourth place.

FAU's Justine Fournand played a flawless second round with five birdies and no bogeys. Her 67, coupled with an opening 68, gives her a four-shot lead over Valeria Mendizabal of UTEP and Siti Shaari of South Alabama. Lauer is five shots back in fourth.

Juniors Hanna Kiefer and Sarah May had the best rounds of the day for the Hatters. Kiefer was three under par through 16 holes, but had a double-bogey on 17 and finished with a one-under par 71. May was two under going to 16, but a bogey there left her with a second round 71.

Senior Erikah Neger had her struggles on the front nine with two bogeys and a double to go with a single birdie. Her back nine included two birdies, but also a bogey on 10 and a double on 15. She is tied, along with Kiefer, for 19th in the field. May is two shots further back, tied for 27th.

Freshman Wendy Hsiao followed her opening 75 with a 77 on Monday. Her round included one birdie and six bogeys. She is tied for 57th.

Final round play at the Pat Bradley Invitational is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Hatters will be matched against FAU and FGCU off the first three tees.
