NEWS-JOURNAL FEATURE
The 2019 Stetson volleyball season has been anything but ordinary. The Hatters have been impacted by hurricanes, fires, uniform availability, and now a venue change, but the the team just keeps marching right along.
Winners of seven in a row, Stetson will host Jacksonville Wednesday night in an ASUN Conference match at DeLand High School. The match was moved from the Edmunds Center, which remains closed after last week's fire in the equipment room.
First serve will remain at the originally scheduled time of 6 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
All tickets are general admission and can be purchased online (GoHatters.com/tix) or at the door of the DeLand High School Gymnasium for $5. Stetson students, faculty, and staff are admitted free with an ID.
All-Time Series
Jacksonville leads the all-time series 65-16 over Stetson, but the Hatters have won four of the past five meetings in DeLand.
Win Streak
The Hatters' seven-game win streak is the team's longest since 2013 and ties a single-season record. The school record for longest win streak is nine in a row, but that spanned across two seasons (1985-86). The Hatters have never won eight in a row in the same season. This is the fourth time they have won seven in a row.
ASUN Win Streak
Hatters' six-game win streak in conference play is the team's longest since winning seven straight league games in the 1985 TAAC Tournament.
20-Year Reunion
Stetson will be making its first appearance at DeLand High School since Sept. 18, 1999, a 3-2 loss to Florida A&M.
Player of the Week Sweep
Senior middle Brianna Schmid was named ASUN Player of the Week, junior libero Chelcie Spence was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week, and rookie outside hitter Elena Djokovic was named ASUN Freshman of the Week. It is the first time Stetson has swept all three weekly awards. Stetson has now had three consecutive ASUN Players of the Week.
