Hatters Fall in ASUN Semifinals

Box Score Stetson men's soccer saw its 2019 season end on Sunday as the No. 4 seed Hatters suffered a 3-2 loss to top-seeded NJIT in the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament in Newark, N.J.

NJIT (9-4-4) next hosts No. 2 seed FGCU for a trip to the NCAA Tournament next weekend.

Sophomores Lewis Scattergood and Sebastian Chalbaud each scored second half goals as the Hatters (8-10-2) battled back from a 2-0 deficit early in the second half.

Scattergood put the Hatters on the board in the 49th minute when his header in the box found the left corner of the goal, cutting the Highlanders' lead to 2-1. His goal came 36 seconds after the Highlanders went ahead 2-0.

The game remained 2-1 until NJIT's Reagan Watkins scores to make it a 3-1 affair in the 81st minute.

Down two, the Hatters didn't quit. Sebastian Chalbaud, Friday night's hero, gave Stetson a chance by scoring in the 89th minute. Gabriel Diniz had the assist and suddenly the Hatters were within one.

But it wasn't to be as the Highlanders ran out the clock and escaped with the win.

NJIT took an early lead on an Alejandro Rabell goal in the 19^th minute. The Highlanders went up 2-0 as ASUN Player of the Year Rene White found the back of the net in the 48^th minute.
