Hatters Fall to No. 13 Kentucky 67-48

Colclough, Carter lead balanced attack

Lexington, Ky. -- Rhyne Howard led all players with 24 points as 13th-ranked Kentucky defeated Stetson 67-48 Wednesday night in front of 3,473 at Memorial Coliseum.

Kennedi Colclough and Kimia Carter came off the bench to lead the Hatters (1-1) with 10 points apiece.  Megan Vincent scored nine and Maddie Novak added eight.

"I didn't think we started the game very well," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "They came out and jumped on us in the first quarter.  I thought we fought, though. In the second half we played much better.  We kept them off the glass and were much more aggressive."

Facing consistent full court pressure, Stetson fell behind 8-0 early and trailed 32-20 at the break.  Kentucky (3-0) extended the lead to 19 after three quarters, but the Hatters chipped away in the fourth and pulled within 12 with 5:28 to go.

"I was proud of our fight," Bria said.  "I saw some good things from different people.  To play against their pressure is really good for us."

After shooting just 28 percent in the first half, the Hatters shot 50 percent in the second half and 37 percent for the game.  Team rebounds were even at 41, although Kentucky turned 19 offensive rebounds into 22 second chance points.

It was the first meeting between the two programs since 2005.

The Hatters will travel to Morehead, Ky. this weekend for the Eagle Invitational.  Stetson will face Morehead State at 6 p.m. Friday and Saint Francis at 3 p.m. Saturday.
