Purdue Fort Wayne broke open a tight game with a 10-0 run early in the second half as the Mastodons downed Stetson, 79-55, Saturday at Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Stetson's Rob Perry scored seven straight points to get the Hatters (2-1) within 35-32 with 15:32 to play, but the Mastodons (2-3) responded by scoring the next 10 points for a 45-32 lead with 13:16 to go. Stetson never got closer than 10 points (45-35) the rest of the way.

Stetson struggled on the offensive end for much of the night, shooting just 41 percent from the field. The Hatters shot at a 33-percent clip in the first half but limited PFW to 34.5-percent shooting in the same half and trailed just 29-25 at halftime.

The Mastodons recovered after the break and shot 60 percent in the second half, including 8 of 14 from 3-point range. Stetson shot 50 percent after halftime, but couldn't keep up from beyond the arc, going 3 of 7 from deep in the final 20 minutes.

Stetson freshman Mahamadou Diawara enjoyed a strong night in the post for the Hatters, scoring 15 points on 7 of 11 shooting, and grabbing 5 rebounds in 25 minutes. Perry finished with 11 points and Christiaan Jones chipped in with 10.
