As a youngster growing up in Clarksville, Tenn., it's no surprise that Kimia Carter was a fan of Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols basketball team.

"If you're from Tennessee, you have to be some sort of Tennessee fan, especially when it comes to football," Carter said.  "It's in your blood."

Carter will have a chance to play against the team she grew up following when Stetson (2-2) visits 23rd-ranked Tennessee (4-0) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.  It will be her first time on the Thompson-Boling Arena court since attending basketball camps there several years ago.

"I'm really excited," Carter said.  "I came to the (Stetson-Tennessee) game last year. I'm really excited to actually get to play on the court and see all my family in the crowd."

Carter played prep ball at three different Tennessee high schools, beginning with Kenwood High School in Clarksville her freshman year.  While there, she helped lead the Lady Knights to one of their best seasons in several years.  After her freshman campaign, however, Carter, her mom, and her six siblings all moved to Chattanooga to reunite with her dad.

Carter herself then moved again to live with her aunt in Cleveland, Tenn. and to play with her cousin, Rhyne Howard, at Bradley Central High School.  With several star players on that team, Carter played more of a supporting role during her sophomore and junior seasons.

Prior to her senior year, Carter decided to move back home to Chattanooga to play at Brainerd High School, which allowed her family, including her grandparents, a chance to see her play more often.  Carter made the most of the move, averaging 30 points-per-game and being named one of three finalists for the "Miss Tennessee" basketball award.

"It was actually really good. It felt like my hard work was paying off," Carter said.  "I grew up knowing many of the Miss Basketball finalists that came out of Tennessee and Kentucky, so it was an honor being selected in that category."

While at Brainerd, Carter caught the attention of Stetson head coach Lynn Bria.

"I liked her versatility; she is a good inside-outside player," Bria said. "I also liked her size. I thought she could score, she could rebound, and that she would fit into our system really well. And then I just liked her.  She is good people, and she fits into our culture. She wants to be great."

Carter, one of five freshmen on the Hatters this season, has made an early impact on the court.  She scored nine points in her Hatter debut against Palm Beach Atlantic, then helped lead the team with 10 points at Kentucky where she played against Howard, who is now a sophomore with the Wildcats.  Carter started the previous two games for the Hatters this past weekend at Morehead State.

"I think she has been phenomenal for a freshman," Bria said. "She has really adapted and just gets better and better every practice.  She wants to be coached.  I think her upside is tremendous, and I can't say enough about her."

Based on the text messages she has been receiving, Carter does expect a large contingent of family, friends, former coaches and teammates in the stands Tuesday night.

The Hatters, meanwhile, will returning to the site where they nearly pulled off an upset last year.  Stetson led No. 9 Tennessee by 16 at the half and by 20 in the third quarter before falling 65-55.

The Lady Vols lead the all-time series 7-0.

Tuesday's game will be broadcast by SECN+.  Live stats, the @StetsonWBB twitter feed and the HatCheck text messaging system will provide live updates as well.

Quoting Coach Bria on Tennessee
"They are really big, and rebounding is going to be a key.  We have to really be on the glass.  They have good inside-outside balance, and they are going to pressure like they always do."

Long Trip
Tuesday will be the eighth straight day on the road for the Hatters.  Stetson left DeLand on Tue. Nov. 12, played at Kentucky on Wednesday and at Morehead State on Friday and Saturday.  The Hatters traveled via charter bus from Morehead to Knoxville on Sunday.

Long Range Specialist
As of Monday, freshman Maddie Novak ranks second in the ASUN and 27th in the nation with 12 3-point field goals made.  She is averaging 3.0 treys-per-game and is shooting 57.1 percent from behind the arc. She hit a season-high five 3-pointers on Saturday against Saint Francis.

Block Party
Megan Vincent leads the ASUN and ranks 31st in the NCAA with a 2.5 blocks-per-game average this season. She has seven blocks in her past two games.  Vincent led the conference and ranked 37th in the NCAA with 64 blocked shots last season.

Up Next
Stetson will return home to face Trinity Baptist at 1 p.m. Saturday.
