Hatters Drop 73-46 Decision at #23 Tennessee

Day'Neshia Banks leads with 21 points

Knoxville, Tenn. -- The Lady Vols hit eight 3-pointers including six in the first quarter alone as 23rd-ranked Tennessee defeated Stetson 73-46 Tuesday night in front of 7.346 fans at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee (5-0) used those early 3-pointers to take a 20-11 lead after 1, but Stetson (2-3) stayed aggressive, attacked the basket, and cut the deficit to three midway through the second quarter.  The Lady Vols, however, finished the half on a 13-1 run and eventually pulled away in the second half.

"I thought we competed in the first quarter.  I thought it got a way from us a little bit in the last four minutes before the half," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We quit scoring when they went to a zone.  They kind of stifled us, and we started to take some quick shots.  I thought up to that point we were doing what we were supposed to do."

Day'Neshia Banks led the Hatters with 21 points, tying a season-high.  She was 7-for-11 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the arc.

Kennedi Colclough registered 10 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Kendall Lentz added a season-high seven points.

Tennessee used its size advantage and a strong half-court defense to limit Stetson to just 28 percent shooting.

Rennia Davis led the Lady Vols with 15 points.

Stetson was playing the fourth and final game of an eight-day road trip. The Hatters will return home to face Trinity Baptist College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
