Hatters Announce 2020 Softball Schedule

55 Regular Season Games on Tap

DeLand, Fla. – A full slate of 33 home games plus road tournaments in Clermont, Lake Buena Vista, and Longwood highlight the 2020 Stetson University softball schedule, which was released on Tuesday.
 
The Hatters will open the season with the Stetson Lead-Off Classic Feb. 7-9 at Patricia Wilson Field.  Boston University, George Mason and Sam Houston State will travel to DeLand for the season-opening tournament.

On Feb. 14-15, Stetson will begin a nine-game road swing with contests against Central Michigan and Connecticut at The Spring Games in Clermont.

Softball Schedule 2020The following weekend, Stetson will travel to the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic (Feb. 21-23) at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.  The Hatters will face Morgan State, Villanova, Troy, Clemson and Oakland during the three-day event.

The Hatters will begin a 13-game homestand on Feb. 28 with the Stetson Invitational, featuring Colgate, Bethune-Cookman and Valparaiso.  Stetson and Valpo will play again on March 4. 

The Hatters Classic comes to Patricia Wilson Field March 6-8.  The Hatters will face Northern Kentucky, Sacred Heart, and Fairfield.  USC Upstate returns to DeLand for a non-conference doubleheader on March 11.

Stetson will make its debut appearance at Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood on March 13-15 as part of The Spring Games.  The Hatters will face Eastern Illinois, Long Island, Niagara, and Manhattan during the event.

Next, Stetson will host Princeton in a non-conference doubleheader on March 17 prior to the start of conference play.

The ASUN schedule will once again feature seven conference series.  The Hatters will play four series at home – vs. Florida Gulf Coast, Liberty, Lipscomb and Jacksonville, and three series on the road – at North Alabama, at North Florida, and at Kennesaw State.  

Stetson will also host a midweek game vs. Bethune-Cookman on April 15.

The ASUN Championship will be held in Lynchburg. Va. on May 6-9. The top six teams in the regular season will qualify for the postseason tournament, with the champion receiving the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Hatters went 16-31 in 2019. Head coach Frank Griffin returns for his 24th season with 966 career victories.

NCAA Opponents
The Hatters will play four conference champions in 2020, including two on opening weekend.  Boston University won the Patriot League, Sam Houston State won the Southland Conference, Bethune-Cookman won the MEAC and Lipscomb won the ASUN.

Top 100 RPI teams
The Hatters will face eight opponents that finished in the RPI Top 100 in 2019 – Lipscomb (36), Liberty (55), Troy (59), Sam Houston State (70), USC Upstate (76), FGCU (83), Boston U. (93), UNF (99).

Welcome to DeLand
Sam Houston State will be making its first-ever appearance at Patricia Wilson Field in 2020.  All the other opponents will be making return trips, including former ASUN members USC Upstate and Northern Kentucky.

Clemson Debuts
The Clemson Tigers are playing their inaugural season of softball in 2020, and the Hatters will face the Tigers on Feb. 22 at Disney.

Home Cooking
The Hatters are 427-210 (.670) all-time in 17 seasons at Patricia Wilson Field.
