Hatters Plagued by Turnovers in 66-40 Loss to UCF

Maddie Novak leads with 16 points

Orlando, Fla. -- One game after producing a school-record 116 points, Stetson scored a season-low 40 points in a 66-40 setback to UCF Wednesday afternoon at Addition Arena.

The Hatters (3-4) committed 35 turnovers while taking just 35 shots from the floor.  The Knights (4-2), meanwhile, took 66 shots and scored 31 points off Stetson turnovers.

"It was all about turnovers," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We started the game great, and I thought we were good until we substituted.  You are just not going to beat too many teams having 35 turnovers. We have to get it corrected and get better."

Freshman Maddie Novak led the way with 16 points, scoring 10 in the first quarter alone. She hit a pair of 3-pointers early to help Stetson jump out to an early 12-0 lead.

UCF turned up the pressure and outscored Stetson 18-6 in the second quarter to lead 31-22 at the break.  The Hatters scored just 18 points in the second half as the Knights pulled away.

Day'Neshia Banks reached double figures for the fifth game in a row as she finished with 13 points.  Megan Vincent added eight points and two blocks.

"I thought our effort was pretty good, and I thought our defensive game plan was good," Brai said.  "We kept their points down, especially since they had 30 more shots than us, but the offense was not good."

Kay Kay Wright led all players with 20 points.  Stetson outshot UCF 37 percent to 35 percent.

The Hatters will host Florida National at 11 a.m. Tuesday for the annual Elementary School game at the Edmunds Center.
