Kent State Too Much for Hatters

KENT, Ohio--Stetson's Mahamadou Diawara recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds but Kent State erupted in the second half on the way to a 77-53 win over Stetson, Saturday at the Memorial Athletic & Convocation Center.

Christiaan Jones joined Diawara in double figures with 15 points. But Stetson struggled to gain any offensive consistency throughout the game and eventually the Golden Flashes wore down the Hatters' defense.

Trailing 35-29 at halftime, the Hatters (4-5) closed to within 35-33 early in the second half before the Golden Flashes (6-1) went on a game-changing 10-0 run for a 45-33 lead with 16:14 to play. Stetson never got any closer the rest of the way.

Diawara, who entered the game ranked 11th nationally in field-goal percentage (.677) was just 7 of 14 from the field and never went to the free throw line despite facing a larger and much more physical Kent State front line.

Kent State edged Stetson on the glass, 37-36, and the Golden Flashes turn 17 Stetson turnovers into 24 points.

Five different players scored in double figures for the Golden Flashes, led by Anthony Roberts' 17 points.

The Hatters next return home to host Bethune-Cookman, 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Edmunds Center.
