Hatters Roll to 77-46 Opening Night Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

Day'Neshia Banks leads with 21 points

DeLand, Fla. -- Day'Neshia Banks scored a game-high 21 points and Megan Vincent added 15 as Stetson cruised to a 77-46 season-opening victory over Palm Beach Atlantic Tuesday night at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters (1-0) opened the game on a 11-0 run and never looked back.  Stetson also started the third quarter on a 17-0 run to break the game open.

"I was very happy with our effort, but our execution just has to get better," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I was not happy with our second quarter defensively.  I thought we gave up way too many points, but I was really happy with our third quarter start. I thought we turned them over a couple of times. Overall I think we can get some things out of it, we just have to get better and keep playing together."

Six different Hatters made their Stetson debuts, including junior point guard Tonysha Curry who finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

Freshmen Maddie Novak and Kimia Carter scored nine points apiece, Tippy Robertson scored three, Jamiya Turner scored two, and Alyssa Derrick pulled down one rebound.

"I thought they all contributed," Bria said.  "Maddie Novak had a great game - hit some shots for us that we needed. I thought that Jamiya came off the bench and made some great passes. I thought Kimia did some really good things. I also thought Tonysha did a really great job of being steady for us and making good decisions. I'm very happy with the newcomers."

Kennedi Colclough (7 points) and Jon'Nita Henry (3 points) also scored for the Hatters.  Stetson outrebounded Palm Beach Atlantic 51-34.

The Hatters will travel to Lexington, Ky. to face 13th-ranked Kentucky on Nov. 13.
