Banks Scores 32 But Hatters Fall to Holy Cross

Hatter junior drops in 15 field goals in career-high effort

DeLand, Fla. -- Despite a career-high 32 points from junior Day'Neshia Banks, Stetson dropped a 75-63 decision to Holy Cross Monday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The Hatters completed non-conference play with a 6-7 mark.  The Crusaders improved to 7-4.

In a tightly contested affair, the Hatters trailed by four at the half, by two after 3, and pulled even at 52 with 9:07 to go.  Holy Cross, however, outscored Stetson 23-11 the rest of the way to secure the 12-point victory.

"We didn't start the game well," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We gave up three 3s in transition, and we just weren't ready to play today."

Banks was 15-for-24 from the field to become the first 30-point scorer for the Hatters this season.  She added 10 rebounds, three steals and one assist, and now has five double-doubles in her last six games.

"I am really happy for Day Day," Bria said. "It shows her versatility and how good of player she really is, but we need other people to contribute and score the basketball."

For the game, Stetson shot 45 percent from the floor but hit just 2-of-12 attempts from behind the arc.  Holy Cross hit nine 3-pointers and shot 43.5 percent from the floor.  Lauren Manis led the Crusaders with 25 points.

The game was the first all-time meeting between the two teams.

The Hatters will begin conference play Saturday afternoon at Kennesaw State.  Tip-off at the KSU Convocation Center is set for 2 p.m.

Notes:
  • Day'Neshia Banks becomes just the third Hatter all-time with at least 15 field goals in a game. She is first to do so since Sarah Foley had 16 vs. UCF in 1989.
  • Banks is also the first Hatter with a 30-point game since McKenna Beach scored 37 vs. Kennesaw State last season.
  • With her four blocks, Megan Vincent moved past Sasha Sims and into third place on Stetson's all-time blocks list (149).
