Hatters Can't Slow VMI

LEXINGTON, Va.--Stetson's Rob Perry scored a game-high 19 points but the Hatters couldn't overcome 18 made VMI three-pointers in an 88-61 loss to the Keydets, Saturday at Cameron Hall.

VMI (4-7) shot 54.5 percent from the field, a season-best for a Stetson opponent. While the Hatters (5-6) shot 50 percent in their own right, a slow start to the game and significant foul trouble in the first half put Stetson in a bad spot early.

Perry, Mahamadou Diawara, and Christiaan Jones played a combined total of just 27 minutes in the first as each player was charged with 2 fouls. Stetson trailed 42-32 at halftime due largely to a 12-3 free throw shooting advantage by the Keydets.

Stetson had trouble finding a rhythm in the second half, and the Keydets took advantage by going 11 for 20 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes. Turnovers were also a factor throughout the game as the Keydets turned 16 Stetson miscues into 22 points for the game.

Perry finished 5 of 10 from the field with four triples, and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Fellow freshman Wheza Panzo tied a season-high with 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting.

Travis Evee led VMI with 18 points.

The Hatters take a week off for final exams before returning to action when they host Longwood, 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15 at Edmunds Center.
