Hatters Head to Disney for Citrus Blossom Classic

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson Hatters will travel to ESPN's Wide World of Sports this weekend to compete at the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Classic.  Stetson will play five games over three days, beginning with an 11 a.m. contest against Troy on Friday.

After dropping a pair to Indiana State at home on opening day, the Hatters are looking for a change of venue to provide a fresh start.

"I thought we were a little tight this past Saturday and didn't perform certainly as well as we are capable of," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "We just need to get some games under our belt.  We are looking forward to going to Disney to play this weekend."

The Schedule:
Friday
vs. Troy - 11 a.m.
vs. St. Joseph's - 1:30 p.m.
Saturday
vs. Providence - 11 a.m.
vs. Villanova - 1:30 p.m.
Sunday:
vs. LIU-Brooklyn - 9 a.m.

Follow Along
A live video stream may be available via subscription based FloSoftball.  Live stats (GoHatters.com/stats), Twitter (@StetsonSoftball) and HatCheck text messages will provide in-game updates as well.

Lead-Off Success
Stetson's lead-off hitters batted .500 on opening day and reached base seven times in 12 opportunities. However, Stetson was just 2-for-21 with runners in scoring position.

"We are just trying to get more relaxed at the plate," Griffin said about team practice this week. "We took a large number of swings Wednesday to try and see the ball better, and we worked on our bunting as well."

Double Time
Ashly Smith hit two doubles in Game 1 Saturday. She was also the last Hatter to record two doubles in the same game, doing so on Feb. 16 last year against George Washington.  That came just six days after hitting two triples in game against Akron on Feb. 10.

Give and Take
In 15 games all-time at Disney, the Hatters have not yet hit a home run, but left fielder Kelsey Waters did rob a home run from George Washington in 2017.

Milestone Approaching
Molly McMaughlin's next game will be her 100th at Stetson.
