Hatters Hang on For Impressive Victory

Marques Sumner and Christiaan Jones combined to score 14 points in the final 8:31 as Stetson held off FGCU for a 67-55 ASUN Conference win, Saturday at Edmunds center in DeLand.

The Hatters (6-21 overall, 2-10 ASUN) dominated the first half and led, 37-20, at halftime but the game nearly slipped away in the second half.

Four straight points by Jones sandwiched around two freebies for the Eagles gave Stetson a 49-44 lead with 7:16 to go. A three-pointer by FGCU's Caleb Catto made it 49-47, but a dunk by Abayomi Iyiola and back-to-back 3-pointers by Sumner gave the Hatters a 57-47 lead with 3:51 to play.

Sumner and Jones put the game away with a 3-pointer and a dunk, respectively, as Stetson went up 63-50 with 1:38 to play.
