FGCU Halts Hatters Win Streak, 73-40

DeLand, Fla. -- FGCU jumped out to a 19-4 lead and held on the rest of the way in a 73-40 victory over Stetson Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

In a matchup of two red-hot teams, the Eagles (21-4, 12-0 ASUN) won their 12th game in a row while the Hatters (13-12, 8-3) saw their six-game win streak snapped.

Stetson shot just 26 percent from the floor and was held to a season-low 40 points.

"It was not a good game for us. We didn't shoot the ball well," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We just made some mistakes that we haven't made in a while. It comes down to putting some points on the board, and we didn't score today."

Day'Neshia Banks led the Hatters with 19 points and eight rebounds.  It was her ninth straight game scoring in double figures.  Megan Vincent added 12 points and three blocks.

FGCU shot 42 percent from the floor and held a 43-33 edge on the boards.

"I didn't think that our defense was good in the first half," Bria said.  "I thought it was a little bit better in the second half. We have to sit down and guard people. We just had a lot of mistakes, and you can't have mistakes like that when you play a team like FGCU.  We have to continue to get better."

The Hatters will look to start a new streak Tuesday night at NJIT.

Notes:
  • McKenna Beach had her incredible consecutive minutes played streak end at 181 when she left the game in the third quarter with an injury.
  • Megan Vincent scored in double figures for the third straight game and recorded multiple blocks for the eighth straight game.
  • The loss also snapped Stetson's six-game home court win streak
