Fourth Quarter Surge Lifts Hatters Past NJIT

Day'Neshia Banks Notches Third Double-Double

Newark, N.J. -- Stetson rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit to defeat NJIT 56-47 Tuesday evening at the Wellness and Events Center.

Day'Neshia Banks recorded her third double-double of the season with 20-point, 10-rebound effort as the Hatters (14-12, 9-3 ASUN) won for the seventh time in their last eight games.

Stetson trailed 38-30 with 2:30 to go in the third quarter but outscored the Highlanders 26-9 the rest of the way to post its fourth come-from-behind win in conference play.

"I thought it was an ugly game, but I am proud of our team for finding a way to win," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I thought Jon'Nita Henry gave us a spark off the bench and did a great job for us, offensively and defensively.  We really needed her and she did an awesome job, as did Bianca."

The Hatters were without starting point guard McKenna Beach who was injured in the second half of Saturday's game vs. FGCU.  Freshmen Mackenzie Davis and Bianca Fizouaty stepped up by scoring nine points apiece while playing major minutes.

"Mackenzie had to run the point without having McKenna, and I am really proud of what she did," Bria said.  "I thought she handled it really, really well."

The Hatters overcame a slow start to shoot 46 percent for the game.  Stetson hit five 3-pointers, including a pair by Addi Walters.

Danielle Tunstall had 15 points to lead the Highlanders (5-20, 2-10).

The Hatters will return home to face North Alabama at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Notes:
  • Stetson clinched its ninth straight winning season in ASUN play and moved into sole possession of second place in the ASUN standings
  • McKenna Beach did not play for the first time in her career, a span of 122 consecutive games
  • Stetson held its fifth opponent this season below 50 points
  • The Hatters allowed just three points in the second quarter, a season-low for a Stetson opponent
  • Day'Neshia Banks scored in double figures for the 10th straight game
  • Megan Vincent recorded multiple blocks for the ninth straight game
  • Stetson improved to 2-0 when dressing just eight players
  • The Hatters have won three straight on the road
