Hatters Rally Again, Defeat UNA 69-59

Megan Vincent and Day'Neshia Bank Post Double-Doubles

DeLand, Fla. -- In a key ASUN Conference showdown for postseason seeding, Stetson rallied from a four-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat North Alabama 69-59 Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

Megan Vincent scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting and Day'Neshia Banks added 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Hatters (15-12, 10-3 ASUN) clinched home court advantage for the ASUN quarterfinal round.

Stetson also extended its lead over UNA to two games in the league standings after posting its fifth come-from-behind victory in conference play.

"I am just proud of our players," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "The thing about this team, they have resiliency.  They hang in there, they keep playing, and they keep fighting.   They just have a spirit about them that they do not give up."

Mackenzie Davis, who has taken over point guard duties with the recent injury to McKenna Beach, scored a season-high 14 points while dishing out five assists.

"I thought every player stepped up.  I thought Mackenzie played an incredible game on both ends of the floor," Bria said.  "I think they have vastly improved from our NJIT game (Tuesday). They just keep getting better."

A wild first half that featured seven lead changes resulted in a 29-29 tie at the break.  Stetson used a 14-0 run early in the third quarter to take a 43-31 lead.

The Lions (17-6, 8-5) fought back, eventually tying the game and then taking a 50-46 lead with 7:13 to go.

The Hatters bounced back, tying the game at 54 on a layup by Vincent.  Moments later, Bianca Fizouaty converted steal into a fastbreak bucket to give Stetson a five-point lead.

Stetson went 10-for-12 from the free throw line down the stretch to nail down the victory.

Vincent hit the 20-point mark for the second time in five games, adding 13 rebounds for her first career double-double.  She also recorded five assists and four blocks including the 100th block of her career.

"We all worked really well as a team," Vincent said.  "We played great team defense and I feel like we executed well on offense.  Even when the tied it up, we stuck together.  We just kept going and didn't give up."

The Hatters shot 45 percent from the floor and held a 38-34 advantage on the glass.

Brittany Panetti led the Lions with 20 points.

The Hatters will host UNF at 7 p.m. Wednesday for senior night.

  • Banks recorded her fourth double-double of the season and added six assists.
