Hatters Split Pair in Boca Raton

Stetson men's tennis split a pair of matches on Sunday, rallying for a 4-3 win over DePaul before  suffering a 4-0 loss to Florida Atlantic at the FAU Tennis Complex in Boca Raton.

The Hatters (4-5) showed some moxie in the win over the Blue Demons. The match was resumed early Sunday morning after darkness halted play on Saturday. The Hatters opened play Saturday with a five-hour match against Tennessee Tech, pushing back the start of their second match of the day, with the Blue Demons, and forcing play into Sunday.

It was a break the Hatters took full advantage of. With Stetson down 3-2 when play began on Sunday, Coilin MacNamara earned a 7-6 (6), 6-1 win on Court 5 and Christian Mills fought for a 7-6 (5), 7-5 win on Court 6 to clinch the team win.

Clement Hamel and Tim Gennes also earned singles victories for Stetson.

Understandably, the afternoon match with FAU didn't go quote so well. The Hatters were swept in doubles and lost three matches in straight sets before play was called.

The Hatters have some time to rest before their next set of matches, as they'll face Georgia Southern and East Carolina, Feb. 23 and 24, in Statesboro, Ga.
