Hatters Fall 4-1 to LIU Brooklyn

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- LIU Brooklyn (4-6) scored two in the fourth and two in the fifth en route to a 4-1 victory over Stetson Sunday morning in the final game of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Classic.

The Hatters (2-5) collected seven hits in the contest but left nine runners on base.

"Our bats didn't show up today," Stetson head coach Frank Griffin said.  "It's tough when you have to play so early on the road, but that's when you dig a little deeper and we didn't do that.  We have to keep working and get ready for next weekend."

Ashly Smith had two hits in the game including an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning that scored Riley Russell. Danielle Diaz and Elizabeth Jackson also collected a pair of hits.  Diaz finished the weekend 7-for-10 (.700) at the plate. Tori Perkins and Jaime Tino split the game in the circle.

The Hatters will head to Clermont on Friday to face FAU in a doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Notes:
  • Stetson leads the ASUN in team batting average (.315)
  • Elizabeth Jackson has a team-leading 10 hits
  • Riley Russell has reached base safely in all seven games
  • The Hatters committed no errors Sunday and only three errors during the tournament
