Hatters Down Oakland

Stetson women's tennis swept singles play on the way to a 6-1 win over Oakland, Tuesday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
With poor weather in the forecast, the Hatters (5-3) and Golden Grizzlies (2-3) played singles first, giving Stetson an opportunity to flex its muscles and put away the match early.
 
Brooke Milner started the winning for the Hatters, taking a 6-2, 6-1 win on Court 3. Lucie Renault quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win on Court 2.
 
Vicky Geurinckx gave Stetson a 3-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 lead on Court 4, but the Hatters had to wait a bit to clinch the win. Alexe Viaud finally gave the Hatters the team victory with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 win on Court 6.
 
Danel Ashirova won 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) at Court 1 and Danielle Peele finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory on Court 5.
 
Leading 6-0, the Hatters stumbled in doubles although the team victory was already clinched. The No. 1 tandem of Ashirova and Renault were victorious by a 6-3 score, but the Hatters fell short on Courts 2 and 3.
 
Stetson next takes on Georgia Southern and Savannah State, Feb. 22 and 23, in Statesboro, Ga.
