High Five: Hatters Down Liberty For Fifth Straight Win

Megan Vincent Scores a Career-High 22 Points

Lynchburg, Va. -- Megan Vincent scored a career-high 22 points, adding nine rebounds and two blocks as Stetson won its fifth in a row, 68-56, over Liberty Tuesday at the Vines Center.

Winners of 11 out of 14, the red-hot Hatters (12-11) climbed over the .500 mark for the first time this season and improved to 7-2 in conference play.

Vincent was a blistering 9-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the line to help Stetson complete a season sweep of the Flames.

"(Megan) had an incredible game from start to finish," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "She carried us in the first half, then down the stretch when we needed baskets the most, she either got a block or she scored.  She was just huge for us.  It's definitely the best game I have ever seen her play."

Stetson led by 10 at the break, but Liberty (9-13, 5-4 ASUN) came storming back to tie game at 41 midway through the third quarter.  The Hatters then turned to a 3/4-court defensive press which helped swing the momentum back in their favor.

"We pressed them a little bit and I thought that got us going," Bria said.  "We turned them over a couple times and it gave us some extra possessions.  I thought that was really good in regards to getting us back in the flow."

A 6-0 run which included Bianca Fizouaty's short jumper in the paint gave Stetson a 47-41 lead. Day'Neshia Banks then tallied a 3-point play and another basket to help put Stetson ahead 52-45 after 3.

In the fourth quarter, Addi Walters helped open up a 10-point lead with her third 3-pointer of the game, and the Hatters held on down the stretch to secure the victory.

"We all played together, we passed really well. We all shared the ball," Vincent said. "We really had a joint effort today, and that's how we won."

ASUN Player of the Week McKenna Beach scored 15 points while playing her third straight 40-minute game.  Banks netted 14 and Walters added 13 for the Hatters.

Emily Lytle scored 17 points for the Flames, who had their five-game win streak snapped.

The Hatters will enjoy a week off before hosting Jacksonville next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
