Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Athletic Communications

Hatters Edged by Asheville

Stetson men's tennis suffered a 4-2 loss to UNC Asheville, Tuesday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The match was Stetson's final tune-up before ASUN Conference play begins this weekend.
 
The Hatters faced one of their stiffest tests of the season on Tuesday, and the match started out on a strong note for Stetson. 
 
UNCA came into the match with the No. 1 doubles duo in the country, but that didn't prevent Stetson from winning the doubles point. Coilin MacNamara & Clement Hamel earned a 6-2 win on Court 2, and Antoine Sanchez & Louis Gorregues picked up a 6-4 win on Court 3 to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead.
 
Stetson's Josh Laka & Tim Gennes gave UNCA's top-ranked tandem all they could handle on Court 1, but trailed 4-5 when doubles play ended.
 
In singles play, things quickly turned back to the Bulldogs (11-2). UNCA tied the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1, before Gennes gave the Hatters a 2-1 advantage with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph on Court 3.
 
The Bulldogs regrouped and secured straight set wins on Courts 4, 5, and 2 to clinch the team victory.
 
The Hatters visit conference foe NJIT, 2 p.m., Saturday as league play begins.
