Hatters Down Upstate

Stetson women's tennis rallied for a 5-2 win over USC Upstate, Tuesday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. It was Stetson's fifth win in its last six matches.
 
The Hatters (9-6) were playing their final match before ASUN Conference play begins this weekend. Head coach Travis Sandlant is happy with his team as conference play draws near.
 
"We're healthy and we're at a good fitness level right now, and those are usually the top two concerns every coach has entering conference play," Sandlant said. "I feel like we're striking the ball well. We're growing and trying to develop and we're trying to get better each match."
 
On Tuesday, Stetson was forced to rally after the Spartans (1-11) captured the doubles points. Upstate earned wins on Courts 1 and 2 and led 1-0 as play moved to singles.
 
Vicky Geurinckx tied the match for Stetson with a 6-2, 6-2 win on Court 4, and Danel Ashirova made it 2-1 with her 6-1, 6-2 win on Court 1.
 
Lucie Renault gave the Hatters a 3-1 advantage with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on Court 2, and Brooke Milner clinched the match for Stetson when she finished off a 6-3, 6-2 triumph on Court 3.
 
Alexe Viaud concluded the day for the Hatters with 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-1) win on Court 6.
 
The Hatters visit NJIT, 10 a.m., Saturday in Newark, N.J. as ASUN Conference play officially begins for both teams.
