Hatters Fly Past Kennesaw State 58-45

Stetson hits 11 3-pointers as Beach returns to action

Kennesaw, Ga. -- Megan Vincent registered 14 points, six rebounds and a career-high six blocks as Stetson defeated Kennesaw State 58-45 Saturday afternoon at the KSU Convocation Center.

The Hatters (16-13) improved to 11-4 in ASUN play and need either a win at FGCU Tuesday or a North Alabama loss to clinch the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament.

Addi Walters hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points while McKenna Beach scored nine points in her first game back from injury.

"The first half had huge runs, and the second half was all defensive stops," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "I am really proud of our players. I thought we fought back really hard, especially since our start wasn't so good.  It was good to have McKenna Beach back."

The Hatters hit 11 3-pointers in the game, including a 7-for-8 shooting performance in the second quarter alone.  In the final 70 seconds of the first half, Vincent banked in a 3 from the right corner, Kendall Lentz swished one in from the left side, and Beach sunk a 70-foot heave to beat the halftime buzzzer.

"It felt great. It is always good to shoot some 3s and get our hype, so that was great energy for all of us," Jon'Nita Henry said.

Stetson led 35-27 at the break and 45-35 after 3, but the Owls were within nine points with 5:11 to go.  Freshman Mackenzie Davis then converted a three-point play and followed with a traditional 3-pointer to help the Hatters complete the season sweep.

Stetson shot 49 percent from the field and 55 percent (11-for-20) from the arc.  The Owls (8-20, 4-11) shot just 31 percent from the floor.

The Hatters will visit FGCU in the regular season finale at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Notes:
  • Stetson went on an 18-0 run between the second and third quarters
  • Day'Neshia Banks had her double figure scoring streak snapped but still netted eight points and eight rebounds
  • Stetson's .488 FG pct. was its second-highest of the season (.490 at Liberty)
  • Stetson surpassed 200 three-pointers as a team for just the fifth time in school history
  • Megan Vincent now has 61 blocks on the season
  • McKenna Beach became the 10th player in school history to record 200 steals
