Hatters Fight, But Fall at UNF

Antoine Sanchez and Christian Mills each earned singles victories but it wasn't enough as Stetson men's tennis suffered a 5-2 loss at ASUN Conference foe North Florida, Saturday in Jacksonville.
 
The Hatters (9-8 overall, 1-1 ASUN) stumbled out of the gate, losing the doubles point as UNF (7-9, 1-1) took an early 1-0 lead.
 
Trailing early on, the Hatters put up a fight in singles play but in the end it wasn't enough.
 
"We showed fight and grit, but not enough to get us over the edge," Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. "Our doubles performance was low, and we cannot start the overall match this way. Nonetheless, a good opportunity for this young squad to learn and embrace the little details that make the difference."
 
Sanchez kept Stetson in the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on Court 3, pulling the Hatters to within 2-1, but the Ospreys picked up a straight set win on Court 5 to make it 3-1.
 
Tim Gennes fought to keep the Hatters in the match on Court 5, pushing his opponent to a third set. Gennes, however, couldn't hold on and eventually lost the match 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 as UNF clinched the team victory.
 
Mills ended Stetson's day on a high note with a 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) victory on Court 6.
 
The Hatters return to action next Saturday when they host FGCU at 2 p.m.
