Hatters Edged by Austin Peay

Stetson suffered a 4-3 loss to Austin Peay in women's tennis, Monday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
 
Austin Peay (9-0) won the doubles point, and then took 3 of the first 4 results in singles to clinch the victory.
 
"Austin Peay is a very good team this year," Stetson head coach Travis Sandlant said. "The doubles point was huge today. We had a chance to serve it out at No. 3 doubles and lost a couple of tight deuce games on No. 2 doubles, which in the end was the difference today."
 
The Governors opened doubles with a 6-4 win on Court 2, before Stetson's No. 1 duo of Danel Ashirova & Lucie Renault tied things up with a 6-4 win. APSU won the doubles point with a 7-5 victory on Court 3.
 
In singles, the Governors quickly took control, getting victories on Courts 6, 5 and 2 to clinch the team victory.
 
But the Hatters still had some fight. Vicky Geurinckx got the Hatters on the board with a 7-5, 6-1 win on Court 4.
 
Brooke Milner earned a hard-fought win with a 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3) decision on Court 3. Ashirova closed it out with a 7-5, 6-4 victory on Court 1.
 
Stetson next hosts North Dakota State, 10 a.m., Sunday.
