MacNamara Leads Hatters to Victory on Senior Day

Stetson men's tennis kept the momentum going in a positive direction on Saturday as the Hatters closed out the ASUN Conference regular season with a 5-2 win over Lipscomb at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

With a weekend sweep to end the conference schedule, the Hatters (11-11 overall, 3-4 ASUN) now turn their attention to the ASUN Tournament, which is scheduled for next weekend in DeLand.

Before Saturday's match the Hatters honored their lone senior, Coilin MacNamara, who was playing in his final regular season home match. And he closed out this portion of his career in style, getting the clinching victories in both doubles and singles.

MacNamara and playing partner Clement Hamel earned a 7-6 win on Court 3 in doubles to give the Hatters an early 1-0 lead. But their win came after Colter DeCoste & Antoine Sanchez also won in doubles, taking a 6-3 win on Court 2.

Singles play saw Stetson fall behind early before rallying late. Lipscomb (7-13, 2-5) tied up the match with a win on Court 2, but Christian Mills gave Stetson a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win on Court 6.

Sanchez followed Mills to victory by getting a 7-5, 6-2 decision on Court 3 before MacNamara gave the Hatters the win with a 6-4, 7-5 win on Court 5. After hitting the clinching winner, MacNamara laid on his belly, kissed the court and raised a fist in celebration.

Tim Gennes closed out the match with a 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7) win on Court 4.

The ASUN will officially release the pairings for next week's tournament on Sunday. The tournament begins on Thursday, April 18 and runs through Saturday.
