Hatters Split a Pair of One-Run Decisions With Kennesaw State

Tori Perkins Pitches Her Fourth Shutout of the Year

DeLand, Fla. -- Tori Perkins tossed a six-hit shutout and Devin Lewis drove in the lone run of the game as Stetson defeated Kennesaw State 1-0 in Game 1 Saturday at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Owls (23-21, 8-6 ASUN) rallied for a 3-2 win in Game 2 to split the ASUN doubleheader.  Game 3 will be at 1 p.m. Sunday.

In the opener, Perkins (12-10) pitched her fourth shutout of the season, allowing just six hits and three walks while striking out two.  She shut down the Owls three different times with a runner at third base.

The Hatters (15-23, 4-7 ASUN) broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth.  Elizabeth Jackson reached on a bunt single, advanced to second on Ashly Smith's sharp single, moved to third on Riley Russell's sacrifice bunt, and scored on an infield single off the bat of Lewis.

Jackson also made a diving catch in the top of the seventh, one of three sliding catches on the day for the Hatter left fielder.

In Game 2, the Owls scored a run in the top of the first inning, but Stetson starter Curstin Taylor settled in and allowed no further damage over the next four innings.  She allowed just three hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings in her second start of the year.

Stetson tied the game in the third on an RBI single by Maddie Marchiando and took the lead in the sixth when Jackson scored from third on a wild pitch.

KSU answered with two unearned runs in the top of the seventh and held on for the 3-2 win.  Hailey Andrews (15-12) pitched all 13 innings in the circle on the day for the Owls.

Kasey Fava, Molly McLaughlin, Marchiando and Russell each had two hits for the Hatters. Jackson scored two runs.
