Late Surge Leads Mercer Past Hatters

Riley Reagan and Shelby Lehmann each broke the same school record but Stetson couldn't overcome Mercer in a 20-13 loss to the Bears, Thursday in Macon, Ga.

Lehmann (1 goal, 3 assists) and Reagan (1 goal, 1 assist) each now have 55 points for the season, breaking the previous Stetson season record of 53, held jointly by Reagan and Lindsay Summers. Despite their effort, the Hatters (4-10) came up short against the Bears (7-8) in a non-conference meeting.

The Hatters and Bears battled back-and-forth early on, with neither team getting much of the lead on the other throughout the first half.

With Mercer leading 7-6 at halftime, the Hatters started the second half with a pair of goals from Marina Rotella as Stetson grabbed an 8-7 lead. The advantage, however, was short-lived as Mercer scored five of the next six goals to take control of the game.

With the Bears leading 14-9, Stetson mounted a comeback. Consecutive goals by Reagan, Rotella, and Hannah Mill got the Hatters to within 14-12.

Mercer responded with six straight goals as the Bears went ahead, 20-12, putting the game out of reach for Stetson.

Rotella finished the game with five goals, giving her 37 goals for the season and leaving her six shy of a new school record with at least three games remaining.

Mill scored twice, while six others players scored once.

Mercer was led by Kelly Hagerty's five goals.

The Hatters return to ASUN play on Saturday when they visit Kennesaw State for a game crucial to both team's post-season hopes.
