Frericks Scores Twice But Hatters Edged by Troy

Stetson's Frankie Frericks scored a pair of goals but Troy had just a little bit more as the Trojans handed the Hatters a 3-2 setback, Friday at the Jaguar Classic in Mobile, Ala.

Stetson (1-2) battled Troy (1-1-1) to near statistical draw in terms of shots (14-15), saves (4-5) and fouls (6-7). And the rest of game was just as close.

Troy opened the scoring with a goal by Melissa Kuya-Strobel in the 5th minute. The Hatters answered with consecutive goals by Frericks.

The sophomore transfer scored her first Stetson goal in the 21st minute to tie the match, then added number two four minutes later on a penalty kick for a 2-1 lead.

Troy responded with a game-tying goal from Kate Eubanks in the 37th minute.

The game remained tied until early in the second half when Kiersten Edlund tallied the game winner in the 52nd minute, curling her own corner kick into the goal.

Freshman Lara Bates made her first career start in goal for the Hatters and made three saves. Troy's Kaleigh Mercer made four stops.

"We battled back from being down 1-0 and went up 2-1," Stetson head coach Chris Bergmann said. "We fought hard, and created many chances.  We continue to grow forward and I'm excited about our match on Sunday."

The Hatters continue play in the Jaguar Classic when they face South Alabama on Sunday.
