Hatters Battle Dolphins to 1-1 Draw

Stetson and Jacksonville battled to a 1-1 draw in ASUN Conference men's soccer, Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla.

After battling through a scoreless first half, the Hatters (5-4-1, 1-0-1) got on the board first. Alex Turner gave Stetson a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute, scoring an unassisted goal.

The Hatters, however, held the lead for less than four minutes. Stetson was whistled for a foul in the box in the 71st minute and JU's Mason Turnbridge sank a penalty kick, knotting the game at 1-1.

The teams combined for just four shots during the two overtime periods, but one of them was nearly a difference-maker.

In the 107th minute, Stetson was whistled for another foul in the box. Turnbridge was given another chance to score for the Dolphins (3-2-2, 0-1-1) but Stetson keeper Lute Lillo-Portero made the save to keep the game tied and ultimately help the Hatters earn a point.

Portero faced 12 shots on the night and made seven saves. JU keeper Matt Levy also made seven saves.

The Hatters return to action when they host Georgia State, 7 p.m., Tuesday.
