Hatters Open Home Slate This Weekend with UTRGV, Penn State

Stetson men's soccer opens its home schedule this weekend when the Hatters host UTRGV, 7 p.m., Friday, and Penn State, 1 p.m., Sunday. Both games will be played at the Athletic Training Center.
 
The Hatters are 2-0 for the first time since 2015 after earning wins over College of Charleston and UNCW last weekend at the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic in Charleston, S.C.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Lute Lillo-Portero was named ASUN Conference defensive player of the week after allowing just one goal in two games. Frank Kouentchi, Chris DeGance and Ian McCauley each scored goals last weekend while Gabriel Diniz had two assists.

About the Game: Stetson looks for its first 3-0 start since the 2009 squad opened the year with six straight victories en route to an ASUN championship and NCAA Tournament berth … UTRGV opened the season last weekend with a 1-0 win over Wofford in Houston, Texas … UTRGV – or University of Texas Rio Grande Valley - was formerly known as Texas-Pan American before merging with UT-Brownsville in 2015 … the main campus is located in Edinburg, Texas … this is the first meeting between Stetson and UTRGV.

About the Game: Stetson and Penn State meet for the first time since 2012 and for just the third time overall on Sunday … the Hatters and Nittany Lions split contests in consecutive seasons, with the Hatters winning 3-2 in 2011 in DeLand, and Penn State taking a 3-0 decision the next year in University Park, Pa. … Penn State also plays UCF on its trip to Florida this weekend, facing the Knights on Friday in Orlando … the Nittany Lions are 1-1 in the early going with a home loss to No. 5 Stanford (0-5) and a win over Stony Brook (4-1).
