Hatters Finally Solve Jacksonville in 64-59 Win

For the first time since the second term of the George W. Bush Administration, Stetson men's basketball left Jacksonville's Swisher Gymnasium with a win as the Hatters downed the Dolphins, 64-59, in ASUN Conference play on Saturday.

Kenny Aninye led four Hatters in double figures with a career-high tying 15 points. Rob Perry scored 13, Mahamadou Diawara added 11 and Joel Kabimba chipped in 10 as Stetson won its fourth straight road game.

Stetson's last win at Jacksonville was on Feb, 19, 2006. Since then, the Hatters had lost 13 straight games at Swisher. But that finally changed on Saturday.

After leading 31-28 at halftime, the Hatters opened the second half on an 11-0 run. The Hatters led 42-28 after a Perry jumper with 15:23 to go. Stetson (9-11 overall, 3-2 ASUN) was able to maintain a lead of no less than seven points until the Dolphins drew close in the final two minutes.

Each time the Dolphins appeared to be making a push, Stetson weathered the storm.

After Stetson's lead ballooned to 14 (42-28) Jacksonville closed to within 50-41 with 11:09 to go. But Stetson quickly pushed the lead back out to 14 points as baskets by Jahlil Rawley and a triple by Aninye made it a 55-41 game with 9:28 left.

Stetson held a 59-48 lead with 3:44 remaining as Jacksonville made one last push. The Dolphins eventually closed to within 60-56 with 35 seconds to go but Rawley and Perry combined to make four free throws in the final 26 seconds to clinch the win.

Aninye finished the game 6 of 8 from the field, including a perfect 3 of 3 effort from beyond the arc. Diawara and Kabimba each had 9 rebounds.

Aamahne Santos led Jacksonville with 13 points.
