Lions Hold Off Hatters 68-57

Kennedi Colclough scores 16

Florence, Ala. -- North Alabama survived a late Stetson run to post a 68-57 victory over the Hatters Monday night at Flowers Hall.

For the second straight game, Stetson (7-11, 1-4 ASUN) rallied from a large second-half deficit only to come up short at the end.  Monday, the Hatters cut a 10-point third quarter deficit down to one, but the Lions (14-4, 5-1 ASUN) answered with a 9-0 run to push the lead back to 10.

In the fourth quarter, North Alabama increased its lead to 16 with 6:17 to play when the Hatters started chipping away again.  Jamiya Turner scored five in a row, knocking down a long-range 3, and Megan Vincent and Kimia Carter each added a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to six, but that was as close the Hatters would get.

"I just thought we really killed ourselves with mistakes and turnovers," Stetson head coach Lynn Bria said.  "We have to execute for 40 minutes.  I thought Kennedi had a great game, and I thought we had some people come off the bench and help us. I just feel like we are a stop away, or a score away, and we don't get it done.

"You have to execute down the stretch," Bria added. "We crawl back in games, and again, I'm proud of our fight, but we don't bear down and find a way to win."

Kennedi Colclough led the Hatters with 16 points - her second straight game in double figures - while Carter added nine.

Ivy Wallen led the Lions with 17 points.

Stetson shot 46 percent from the floor and held a 38-33 edge on the glass, but North Alabama converted 22 Stetson turnovers into 19 points-off-turnovers.

Defensively, the Hatters held the Lions scoreless for over five minutes at the end of the second quarter.  UNA shot just 36 percent for the game.

Stetson will return home to face Liberty at 1 p.m. Saturday.
