Hatters Fall Short Against Liberty

DeLand, Fla. -- Freshman Kimia Carter scored 15 points off the bench but Stetson fell 57-48 to visiting Liberty Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center.

The Flames (11-8) improved to 4-2 in ASUN play while the Hatters (7-12) dropped to 1-5.

A seesaw first half saw the Hatters take a one-point lead into the break. Liberty, however, started the third quarter on a 10-2 run and never trailed the rest of the way. Carter hit back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the period to cut the deficit to one, but Liberty pushed the lead back to four by the end of the quarter.

For the game, Carter was 4-for-7 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc. She was joined in double figures by Megan Vincent (12 points) and Day'Neshia Banks (10 points).

Ashtyn Baker scored 16 points to lead the Flames.

After a strong shooting start, Stetson went just 7-for-27 in the second half and finished the game with a .340 field goal percentage. Liberty shot .407 and held a 39-29 edge on the glass. The Flames turned 15 offensive rebounds into 18 second chance points.

The Hatters will be back at home Monday night to host NJIT. Tip-off at the Edmunds Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
