Vincent Sparks Hatters to a 72-49 Win Over NJIT

Junior center scores season-high 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson entered Monday's home contest with NJIT with 10 games remaining in the regular season, and head coach Lynn Bria asked her team to focus squarely on the road ahead.

"It's almost like a new season," Bria said.  "Whether you are winning a lot or not, it's almost like having a reset. We have 10 more left, so I just said let's make our last 10 our best. I guess they heard me. It's a great start."

Stetson did indeed take a step in the right direction with a commanding 72-49 victory over NJIT Monday night at the Edmunds Center.  The Hatters (8-12, 2-5 ASUN) led wire-to-wire to post their first win since Jan. 4.

Megan Vincent led the way with a season-high 18 points, to go along with seven rebounds and four blocks.  She was 8-for-10 from from the floor and 2-for-3 from the free throw line.  Kimia Carter scored 16 points and Day'Neshia Banks added 15.  Stetson held a 40-33 edge on the glass and dished out 20 assists for the first time in conference play.

"I thought it was a good game for us," Bria said.  "I thought we moved the ball and shared the ball really well.  We didn't turn it over.  I thought down the stretch Day Day and Megs had some great plays feeding off of each other.

"I thought Tippy did a really good of running our offense tonight," Bria added.  "She played with a clear head and made great decisions. I was very pleased with how we shared the ball."

Banks led the team with eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.  Tonysha Curry joined Vincent with seven boards and Emari Bell scored her first career points late in the fourth quarter.  Stetson owned a 42-24 advantage in points in the paint.

Kenna Squier scored 21 points to lead the Highlanders (3-17, 0-7 ASUN).

The Hatters will begin a three-game road swing Saturday afternoon at Lipscomb.
